A supermarket in the southern Vietnamese province of Pampanga has used drones to hunt lions for a month.
The operation is part of a program to reduce hunting, but not for the purpose of killing lions, said an official at the province’s Department of Wildlife Management.
“It is to prevent the lion from entering a local population,” he told AFP news agency.
“We don’t want to destroy the animals in any way.”
Wildlife conservationists in Vietnam are increasingly concerned about the growing number of lion killings, which have increased in recent years in some areas.
Last year, a group of local hunters killed more than 100 lions in Pampang, a remote part of the country that has become a hub for hunting and trophy hunting.
