Italian supermarket Lees has announced plans to open its first stores around New York City in a move that will see it opening a second location in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village and opening another store in Brooklyn.
Lees’ stores are expected to start shipping in 2018.
The grocery chain, which was founded in 2007, has recently launched two new products in New York, namely the popular Peanut Butter-Coconut Oil Blended Coffee and Peanut butter and Jelly Spread.
According to the brand’s website, the company’s New York stores will be located in Times Square and Greenwich Village, with a new location to be built in Brooklyn’s Gowanus neighborhood.
The company plans to add another 10 stores in the region by 2019.
“We believe New York will be a great place to open our second store in New Jersey,” Lees chief executive, Andrea Filippi, told Bloomberg.
Leans, which will open its second store, in the Gowanus section of the borough, will offer a range of coffee and other goods, as well as groceries, while also opening a retail space in the East Village.
“This is part of our strategy to diversify our business into New York and beyond,” Filippio told Bloomberg in a statement.
Leers is also considering opening a new store in Queens.
“The Queens market is a great fit for us because it has such a diverse group of people,” Follini said.
In addition to expanding its presence in New England, Lees is looking to expand its business in the Midwest, as the chain plans to bring in its first store in the St. Louis area.
“Our strategy is to open in New Hampshire, Illinois, and Wisconsin, bringing in the brands we are passionate about,” Folin said.
The retailer is also looking to open stores in Texas, Minnesota, Iowa, and Indiana, according to Bloomberg.
“Lees has an enviable history of working with local producers, and we will be investing in our operations to provide a new experience to our customers in the New York market,” Froli said.
Leerys customers can also look forward to seeing new products from the company in the coming months.
“At Lees, we want to help people live better, with better health and more energy,” Foppini said in a release.
Leees plans to sell its brand to grocery giant Aldi and Kroger, which are planning to expand their grocery store network into the United States.
“Today we are proud to be a part of Aldi’s growing, multi-national, community-owned food delivery network,” Foperi said in the release.
