Sprouts has announced the opening of its North American retail stores, which will be available to shoppers in 2017.
The chain, which is headquartered in the U.K., has a presence in 15 states.
In a news release on Tuesday, the chain said that it will have a full-service grocery store in each of its markets in 2017, including stores in Canada, the U.
“Canada is the most likely location for a Sprouts Canada outlet, given the current Canadian supply chain,” it said.
Sprouts is the largest supermarket chain in the world, with 2.3 million stores.
The company operates more than 30 stores in the United States and Canada, as well as online and in-store pickup.
The news of Sprouts opening in 2017 comes after the company has been struggling to grow and expand in North American, a market Sprouts currently holds about 40 per cent of.
The brand has also struggled to attract consumers in the last few years, having been unable to capture customers in a number of key markets.
Sprout opened two stores in New York in December 2016 and another in Boston in February 2017.
Sprouted’s current market share of approximately 27 per cent is less than half of what it was at the end of 2016.
Sprouts had its first full-time retail store in New Jersey in 2008, but it shut down in 2012.
It re-opened in 2014 in Florida, which the company said was one of the hardest markets in the country to reach.
Sprades Canada said in a news report in December that the number of stores in North and South America has increased, and the company expects to open 20 to 25 new stores by the end.
“With our existing stores we’re well positioned for continued growth, and we’re also pleased to announce that we’re currently in the process of expanding our Canadian store footprint to expand our reach and support customers in Canada,” Sprouts said in the release.
“We are pleased to have a new partner in Canada in the form of Sprout, the most trusted brand in the North American market, who has already proven its commitment to Sprouts Canadian customers.”
The announcement comes just weeks after Sprouts announced it would expand its North America distribution footprint, which included opening two stores last year in California.
